It's hard to believe it's been 20 years since Hurricane Kate ripped through our area. Two decades may have passed, but the memories still linger today.
It was late in the evening on November 20, 1985 when Hurricane Kate made its devastating debut in our area.
Two and a half million dollars was spent cleaning up debris in Leon County alone. On the coast, Hurricane Kate packed a knock-out punch that shattered the serenity of many neighborhoods.
Jack Rudloe remembers, "Well, it was a shock! To have thought you just finished up, you get on with life. It was a shock!
Ronald Crum adds, "The biggest thing was trees down four feet marsh and dead coons.”
Kate made landfall as a category two hurricane, affecting a wide part of our viewing area.
