'Tis the season for frying turkeys. These days, more and more Americans are opting to fry rather than baste, but if you're not careful that turkey can spark a dangerous fire.
That's why the Tallahassee Fire Department is offering some turkey frying tips. They say many people don't realize how dangerous a fryer can be if the instructions aren't followed and safety precautions aren't taken.
LT Scott Henderson says, "Of you cook turkey meat, use high temperature oil; never put out the fire with water, that's just going to spread it all around.”
A few more tips are to never leave the fryer unattended, thaw your turkey completely before frying, always use and oil thermostat, and place the fryer on a flat and stable platform.
