Tallahassee, FL - Joe Pevahouse and his wife drove hundreds of miles from Little Rock, Arkansas to watch their twin daughters, Spencer and Ann, compete in this weekends Red Hills Horse Trials. Pevahouse says, "they've been riding since they were 7, they are 17 now and one of them is riding their first one star and the second one is riding her second one star. So they've ridden Dressage today and looking forward to riding stadium here tomorrow and cross country."

Joan Raley has lived in Tallahassee for 34 years and comes to Red Hills every year. She says the Dressage event is like horse ballet and says “it's just really great that we can see how beautifully disciplined the horse and rider are."

For the past 20 years, Tallahassee native, Elizabeth Barron has been riding horses. She says competing in her hometown adds to the fun but also adds a little pressure. Barron says, “you have all your friends and family who want to come out and you know you like to come out and put on a good show and have a good performance but you do have another partner who is not always up for that but it's a lot of fun to be a part of Red Hills and ride with the caliber of people here."

And the day would not be complete without a visit from Ponce de Leon himself who is making his rounds at Red Hills, celebrating 500 years since his arrival in Florida. When asked if he has found the fountain of youth yet he says "I have discovered the Fountain of Youth and as you can tell, I'm over 500 years old and I'm still looking much better than I did back then."

This Sunday, there will be a parade of horses and their owners at 12:30PM, Ponce de Leon will be there to examine the different breeds of horses and talk about their significance to Florida history since most of the breeds are descendants from the horses he brought with him to Florida hundreds of years ago.
