The holiday season can be the busiest time of the year even for identity thieves. Consumer experts say "protect yourself!"
The Florida Division of Consumer Services says the biggest way to prevent identity theft while shopping this holiday season is to pay attention to your surroundings.
Do not leave your credit cards lying around, and only put your name and address on your personal checks.
J.R. Kelly, Director of Florida Consumer Services, says, "Don't put your Social Security number, don't necessarily put your telephone number. Any little things that you can do to cut down on the personal information included on your checks, do it."
Kelly advises consumers to get a credit report to check for any signs of identity theft.
