Three Taylor County residents and the director of the Clean Water Network of Florida have filed a petition against a Department of Environmental Protection issued permit.
The petition calls for an administration hearing to fight the permit which allows Buckeye Paper Mill in Perry from building a pipeline to discharge wastewater into the Gulf of Mexico.
For years, the discharge has been going into the Fenholloway River. Environmentalists say the pipeline would only relocate the pollution the Gulf.
George Stamos, a Buckeye pipeline petitioner, says, "They're angry, I'm sure that they're being opposed, but more people need to speak up. Many people have the same opinions that I have, but they're either afraid to speak up or they don't want to get involved."
Buckeye spokesperson Michele Curtis says the mill remains committed to restoring the river and improving the water quality in the Gulf.
