Florida Gets New Secretary of State

Gov. Jeb Bush has appointed Sue Cobb as the new secretary of state.

Cobb replaces Glenda Hood, who resigned last month so she could return to Orlando and spend more time with her family.

The secretary of state is Florida’s chief elections official, and Cobb says that will be job one.

Sue Cobb says, “To continue in the progress in the Department of State that Glenda and the team have made, particularly in all of the voting processes, throughout the state of Florida. Obviously we know that’s a big part of the job, and the state has done a tremendous amount in that regard.”

Cobb is promising to do the job in a non-partisan fashion. She’s a former U.S. ambassador to Jamaica and also served as the state lottery director when Bush took over as governor in 1999.
