Debris Causing Problems in Wakulla County

First a hurricane, now a tornado; Wakulla County residents are in cleanup mode yet again, and with hundreds of tons of debris to pick up, residents may face another disaster.

The Wakulla County Public Works director says their landfill is bursting at the seams; even the equipment is lost in a sea of debris.

With tons of downed trees and mobile homes needing to be scrapped, county leaders are forced to consider alternatives.

Joe Blanchard with Wakulla County Emergency Management says, "Either the county has to find a place, or go outside the county, which is extremely expensive.”

For now, the county will continue to accept large debris at the landfill and haul off downed trees to a green waste field.

For directions, call the county at 926-0861 or Public Works at 926-7616.
