Cairo firefighters say they began collecting Christmas gifts after the Grady County school system gave them the names of 13 underprivileged youngsters, and with the help of the Grady County Sheriff's Office and some local merchants, Cairo firefighters say they've collected enough to give each child a happy holiday.
LT James Davis says, "All the men here at the Cairo Fire Department really pitched in and gave 100 percent to make this a merry Christmas this year."
Grady County Sheriff Harry Young adds, "We give all year long and if there's a child that needs some help, that's what we're here to do, to protect and to serve, and I feel that's one way we can serve our community is to help some young child have a wonderful Christmas."
Cairo firefighters will load up their fire trucks with the gifts during the next few days and deliver them this holiday weekend.
