It took three weeks of planning to get funding to buy bicycles for deserving children in the rural area.
Organizers say after asking for donations on WCTV, residents in Jefferson County dug deep into their pockets and donated $1,400 to the cause.
David Hobbs says, "The community support has been unbelievable even though we got started late. I enjoyed it, and next year we're going to plan all year long, and I think the community will get behind us."
In addition, the Health Department donated helmets to all of the children receiving brand new bicycles. Sheriff Hobbs is hoping to make Jefferson Kids ‘n Cops an annual fundraising event.
