The North Florida Power Project is dropping its name and taking another.
From now on, the proposed coal plant for Taylor County will be known as the "Taylor Energy Center."
The plant is similar to the one being built in Taylor County.
Project managers say the name change affirms their commitment to Taylor County. The project is undergoing preliminary plant designs and preparing for the permitting process.
The Tallahassee City Commission will decide this spring whether to continue a partnership with the energy center. That decision will come after commissioners review results of an energy option study.
