Firefighters to Midwest

Commissioner Charles H. Bronson will be sending firefighters as well as equipment to help with the deadly wildfire.

Officials say Oklahoma is in a prolonged dry spell and was hit by widespread grass fires Tuesday.

Division of Forestry officials say it's important for Floridians to lend a helping hand.

Debra Hanley says, "Under the state compact we are sending people to Texas and Oklahoma to help them with the fire, and if we do get into a situation where we need help they will send people to help us as well."

The flames have charred 30,000 acres, destroyed about 100 homes and killed one person in Oklahoma. The firefighters assisting in this endeavor are from Blackwater, Bonifay, Perry and Jacksonville.
