The $55 million proposal is designed to attract additional space-related industry to the state, including commercial space flight.
Details include growing science and math programs to get young people interested in space careers, expanding tax exemptions for research and equipment, and developing a spaceport for commercial launches that would carry civilian passengers.
The company Space Adventures has been in negotiations with Florida for years to build a spaceport for commercial space travel.
Chuck Sammons with Space Adventures says, “The state of Florida has the infrastructure as she said, and it’s been here for decades, since the ‘60s. It is the home of space travel, so why not capitalize on that infrastructure and that charisma and that history to put a spaceport here?"
