Former FSU president "Sandy" D'Alemberte is basking in the international spotlight. He is receiving the International Bar Association's prestigious Rule of Law Award.
He was selected because of his efforts as president of the American Bar Association. After the fall of the Berlin Wall he helped people who lived under communist rule regain their freedom.
"There was a great gap in the knowledge of how to move from a Soviet-type society into a society that has a fair economy and where people are treated properly by the justice system. The building of this justice system is something we went to work on," says D'Alemberte, who will receive the award during a ceremony in Miami on February 26.
