This year Tallahassee Community College has started its educator preparation course with 18 students already enrolled.
It's designed for non-education majors and those with bachelors degrees to become teacher certified in a short matter of time.
Program officials say the course directly addresses the area's critical teacher shortage.
"In the fall we will start our second wave of students. We hope to have 50 students join our classes. Of course, we are focusing on the high need courses of math, science and English," says Peggy Russell, director of TCC's Educator Preparation Institute.
TCC is funding the program with the help of the foundation.
