A free program is giving local women the tools the need to fight off an attacker. The Tallahassee Police Department is starting Rape Aggression Defense, or "RAD" courses.
The program is the same as the one offered by Florida State University. However, TPD's is geared more toward the community instead of just students.
Mercurio says, "It definitely empowers women. It gives you some confidence to be able to know you can defend yourself if you were put in a situation."
The 12 hour course is broken down into two or four day meetings. For more information on TPD's free "RAD" courses, call the Crime Prevention Office at (850) 891-4184.
