Florida's community college system is leading the way in matching grants.
Florida Community College Chancellor David Armstrong says through 2005-2006, the program has a cumulative total in private contributions for match of $329 million, with a cumulative total in state match appropriations of $262 million.
"The state does a great job in funding us, but we also need private support for scholarships and startup programs, even helping with building. So private citizens, buildings and industry are contributing in record ways too all of our colleges, including Tallahassee Community College," says, Armstrong, who says the matching dollars commitment from the legislature has nearly helped double the amount of money available to provide financial aid to students.
