Three agencies, the Department of Environmental Protection, the Forestry Service, and The Fish and Wildlife Service may be removed from their current positions and placed into a proposed new cabinet called the Department of the Interior.
The initial target of the bill was the Fish and Wildlife Commission. Legislative leaders tell us they had been unresponsive to citizen concerns.
The end result may force a huge change in government alignment. Representative Will Kendrick tells us the Department of Environmental Protection and possibly the Forestry Division could also become part of the new cabinet. The point is to eliminate duplication of services, but it's already being battled on the front lines.
This information is so new even the governor's office said it had not heard of the bill. So far there is no word on how the governor feels about losing two of his largest agencies and possibly gaining a brand new cabinet level group.
