Allegations of hazing at a FAMU fraternity have now been turned over to the Leon County Sheriff's Office to investigate.
The father of a Kappa Alpha Psi pledge reported the incident. His son Marcus Jones had to be hospitalized after he says he was repeatedly beaten with a cane during pledge activities in February.
Jones has dropped out of school to recover. A LCSO spokesman says the FAMU Police Department asked them to take over the investigation because it stretched beyond FAMU's jurisdiction.
FAMU has suspended Kappa Alpha Psi from campus pending the outcome of the investigation.
