Consolidation is back on the agenda. It's been a hot issue in Leon County and the Tallahassee Community, and on Tuesday, county commissioners will consider a staff report on how a merger of the Sheriff's Office and Tallahassee Police Department could happen.
The issue continued from last month's meeting. Sheriff Larry Campbell supports a merger. However, over at the Police Department there's a strong opposition.
Rafael Hernandez, Deputy Chief, says, "Some of the concerns are if you do a cost analysis, that could be an economic impact if you start looking at consolidation."
Larry Campbell, Leon County Sheriff, says, "The Police Department has some great officers over there. I've got some great deputies over here. If we put them working together in the interest of the people that are paying the bills, they'll get better service."
Campbell says he wants to see the law enforcement merger proposal to go before the voters. County commissioners will discuss the issue Tuesday night.
