Official news release from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement

Tallahassee
A joint investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and the Tallahassee Police Department has led to the arrest of a Tallahassee couple on numerous counts of prescription drug offenses. The investigation began in November 2007 when FDLE received information alleging that Ty Rance Gentle and Kristi Leigh Gentle were visiting numerous doctors to illegally obtain prescription drug medications.

FDLE found that Ty and Kristi Gentle visited several physicians in Tallahassee for treatment of the same medical complaints and obtained prescriptions for such pain medications as Hydrocodone, Oxycodone, Endocet and Darvocet. The couple allegedly obtained as many as 68 prescriptions containing 3,000 prescription pills from 26 different physicians.

Ty Gentle was arrested in Tallahassee on July 14 and charged with 11 counts of Withholding Information from a Practitioner to Obtain Controlled Substances, commonly known as “doctor shopping,” and four counts of Insurance Fraud.

Kristi Gentle was also arrested in Tallahassee on July 14 and charged with 13 counts of Withholding Information from a Practitioner to Obtain Controlled Substances and five counts of Insurance Fraud. Ty and Kristi Gentle were booked in the Leon County Jail.

Doctor shopping and insurance fraud are third-degree felonies.

The investigation is continuing.

Unbelievable. These two were notoriusly missing in action at DOH! I had to deal with both in different capacities & found him to be extreamly vicious & rude over the simplest of things - completely unprovoked. Needed to find her, but never could. Ty you hoped wouldn't answer the phone, & Kristi couldn't be bothered to. You know folks, these things don't go unnoticed. They were at DOH & (she) DMS bleeding the system for years. We ought to be asking about the brain capacity of those who lazily gave good recomendations and passed Kristi on to other jobs with raises in hand, & pay increases to Ty. They didn't wake up one morning & turn this way, been getting away with it for years. No one had the guts to face it & fire them. I am glad they are off this particular gravey train, although I am sure they will just find another sucker to bleed. That is what a leach does.

Every Department of Health employee should be angry that coworkers like Kristi and Ty have remained on the payroll for so long and contributed nothing but one lie after another so they could pawn their work off on everyone else. This has been going on for years! They have enjoyed the same benefits as the rest of the employees who work every day. Why did their DOH supervisors enable this behavior? If an employee is truly ill, they are put on Family Medical Leave with a doctor’s signature. If both were that ill, in the last eight months, one of the twenty-six doctors would have signed the form. But scammers live a life of excuses. They are just two SORRY people. In these economic times, eliminate employees who are habitually unavailable

I know Ty, he was as honest as the day was long when I worked where he does. It must have been the pain that turned him and his wife into addicts, if that is the case, but no one knows that except them. I just hope that Ty and Kristi get a fair trial with jurors that go on all the facts, and not just want to pass judgement as this being a case of pill-popping drugies, which neither one of them would have ever been if it weren't for their car wreck.
