With golden shovels in hand county officials begin the work on a new fire station in the Robertsville/Saint Johns community.
They say the current facility is small and outdated. The new state of the art facility will serve as a fire station and community center.
Fire Chief Dusty House says, "Before this we had to build our own fire station in the Robertsville community. The county didn't do that. It was built by the community, so this is a step up."
County Commissioner Brenda Holt adds, “It's a volunteer fire department, but the new station will have training rooms and a conference room, four-bay facility and all the amenities, but it will also be a shelter. It will be built to hurricane standards."
The school board donated the one acre land to build the 20,000 square feet facility on Hutchinson Ferry Road.
