Hip Hop Star Speaks at FSU

Hip hop superstar KRS one took to the stage at the Beta Bar in Tallahassee Tuesday night.

The recording artist says he's stopping in Florida's capital to help preserve the hip hop culture.

Before the concert he spoke to students at Club Down Under on FSU's campus.

As one of the pioneers of hip hop music, he encourages others to be individualistic. He says hip hop is more than just entertainment.

"The main message is that hip hop is the attitude that creates rap music, graffiti, writing and so on, and our mission is to decriminalize the culture. We are not just what you see on television to make a fast buck, we're families, working class society, and it's time to take responsibility for ourselves," he said.

KRS one used the forum to promote racial unity and to play down the negative stereotypes of hip hop music.
