Demand remains high as we head toward the Memorial Day weekend and summer driving season, plus three refineries are still down from Hurricane Katrina.
A spokesman for the Florida Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Store Association is hoping the refineries go online soon.
Jim Smith says, “If they don’t come back up and we go to refining summer driving blends for the country, at least 26 kinds of unleaded nationwide, two here in Florida, then we’re going to have a difficult time and we could see prices go even higher. My members have their fingers crossed that those refineries come online."
The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded statewide is $2.82. That same gallon of gas costs you $2.69 in Georgia.
