The Florida Supreme Court upheld a death sentence in one of Tallahassee’s most heinous murders.
Joe Elton Nixon was accused of killing Jeanie Bickner back in 1984. Deputies say he abducted her, tied her to a tree with jumper cables and set her on fire.
Thursday the Florida Supreme Court ruled that Nixon did not have grounds for a new trial or a new sentencing hearing, but it did leave the door open for him to pursue an appeal on grounds that he may be mentally retarded.
