One local city in south Georgia is considering a ban on pit bulls from the city limits.
Homerville City Council members are discussing ways to deal with the issue after several citizens expressed their concerns.
Eyewitness News Reporter Kim Carapucci has more.

"Sadie's one and Gator's four."
Meet Sadie and Gator.. Alora Gail Delouch's best friends, pets, playmates.
"They can shake, they can sit, they can jump. They're never mean."

Mean or not, the city of Homerville is considering an ordinance to ban pit bulls from the city limits.

Laurie Anna Pittman has one pitt bull dog as a pet.
"It really hurt us when we found out they're wanting to ban them cuz they're given a bad rep. and they're the sweetest dogs. It's how you raise them."

Homerville City Manager Albert Thornton says the city council is only discussing options as of now.
"We decided we'd look at it, see what needs to be done and at a future date, we'd make a decision on where to change the existing ordinance or to draw up a new ordinance."

To Laurie Anna, these dogs are like family. She hopes the city council will consider punishing dog fighters and not what she calls her children.

Pittman:
"It really should start with the law enforcement punishing the people who fight the dogs instead of taking away the dogs."

Thornton:
"I love dogs myself and I always have. My concern would be the citizens of the city on dogs that bite. We just have to address it and hopefully, we can come to an agreement where everyone concerned would be happy with it."

But the only way these girls will be happy is if they don't ban the breed.

Albert Thornton added that the City Council will meet again on Thursday to discuss the issue, but no action will be taken.
