Florida Legislative Session 2006 Nears the End

Thursday was the 59th day of that sixty day session and it began with most of the major issues still up in the air. Any industry with any clout has got a lobbyist on the capital’s fourth floor. Many are holding paper they don’t want you to see.

Dozens of votes are taking place in a matter of minutes. It took just 48 seconds for the senate to spend $151 million on hurricane preparedness. No one asked a question. Big issues, like how much you’ll pay for homeowners insurance are still being negotiated.

So much will happen in the final days that it often takes weeks to really know who snuck what somewhere.

Sine Die is expected Friday evening. The only thing lawmakers have to do by then is vote on the budget, which they've had on their desk for review for the past few days.
