Florida Gov. Jeb Bush declared May 7 "Florida Animal Disaster Preparedness Day."
The Big Bend Disaster Animal Response Team was out Sunday encouraging residents to get prepared.
Organizers hope pet owners will take the day to put together a disaster kit for each animal and make a plan just in case a disaster strikes.
Haven Cook, director of the Big Bend Animal Response Team, said, "We really hope it will increase people's awareness about being prepared for disasters, have a plan, to know what you're going to do if you have to evacuate."
The Big Bend Disaster Animal Response Team is partnering with the Capital Area Red Cross to provide emergency pet sheltering in case of a disaster.
