Tallahassee's Gaines Street is about to see some major changes, but what shape will they take?
The Gaines Street Vitalization Committee is coming up with a "third alternative,” unsatisfied with the city's public works options of either turning Gaines into a one way street or keeping a two way, but with narrower sidewalks.
“We're going to narrow traffic lanes. We're going to provide parking in both directions of the street and we're going to take out the middle turn lane in favor of a smaller lane that deliveries can access,” explains Ruth Wharton of the Gaines Street Vitalization Committee.
The committee will continue to refine that design at the Challenger Learning Center, the public is invited.
The plan will be presented to the City Commission at the May 24 meeting.
