Several business groups are jumping on the bandwagon to convince the legislature to put caps on non-economic damages for medical malpractice insurance.
The business groups say sky-high lawsuits for medical mistakes are driving up the costs of doctor's insurance premiums. In turn, they say this drives up the cost of health insurance that employers offer their workers.
They also believe limiting so-called pain and suffering awards to victims of medical mistakes could bring down healthcare costs by nine percent.
