The coastal town of St. Marks is breathing a collective sigh of relief.
The memory of Hurricane Dennis and its five foot deep flood waters are as fresh as the marker at the edge of the marina. Folks who work here got up throughout the night to check on the boats and the tides, but this time, no problem.
Brett Shields of Shields Marina said, "Had some wind gusts up to about 30 knots. The water level about 2 - 2:30 it was low tide and we had a normal low tide, so I wasn't that concerned and with the wind continually out of the east I knew we wouldn't get flooded."
Some models estimated a storm surge of five to six feet at St. Marks. That didn't happen. There was no significant flooding at all to report in St. Marks.
