6/16/06 - Some Thomas County residents can expect to be stopped by the cops this evening.
The Thomasville Police Department has DUI checkpoints stationed throughout the county. It started at the top of the hour and will continue until nearly 3 a.m. tomorrow morning.
Thomasville police, along with the Southwest Georgia Traffic Enforcement Network, will be all over the county checking to see if anyone's driving under the influence.
Police say the checkpoint has definitely been a success in the past.
Rachelle Denmark with the Tallahassee Police Department said, "We've gotten some DUIs, we've made some drug cases, we've arrested people who have had warrants on them, just a variety of things. You never know what to expect when you do a checkpoint like this."
The Thomasville Police Department sponsors a road check each year, all to make sure roadways are safe for all citizens in the community.
