Tuesday, a car accident on Thomasville Road took the life of a 26-year-old woman. Her husband, a Leon County paramedic, survived the crash.
In light of the tragedy, EMTs and firefighters volunteered their day off to allow more than 100 of their co-workers to attend the funeral.
Chief Mac Kemp with Leon County EMS said, "It's something that we want to do. Of course, all of us would rather be at the funeral for our comrade because he's hurting right now. But this is part of it. It is part of our profession that we have to maintain coverage for the citizens of Leon County."
Chief Kemp says the shift was covered with one paramedic and one firefighter working together in each ambulance.
