This year more than 40,000 babies will be born with a congenital heart defect; 4,000 of them won't make it to their first birthday.
Taylor Rooks and William Chavez both suffer from heart defects. Their moms have gotten together and founded Broken Hearts of the Big Bend, a support group for families of children with CHD.
The group wants to encourage and inform these parents on dealing with heart defects and surgeries.
Kimberly Rooks of Broken Hearts of the Big Bend said, "I found it very helpful to talk to her and see the little girl and see that she made it through and to have hope that my daughter would also make it through."
Broken Hearts of the Big Bend will hold its next meeting Tuesday, July 18 at 6 p.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church on Park Avenue.
