The Wakulla County Sheriff's Office says the drowning happened at the Pine Creek boat ramp on Smith Creek on the Wakulla-Liberty County line around 5:30 Tuesday night.
Twenty-eight-year-old Jason McKenzie swam to the aid of a struggling young boy, tried to help, but got into trouble himself and drowned.
The young boy was ultimately saved by his 12-year-old brother.
