Floridians are buckling up! Safety belt use increasing more than 20 percent since
The Department of Transportation study observed intersections throughout the state for seat belt use and found four out of five Floridians are buckling up.
Statewide 80.7 percent of drivers and their passengers are using seat belts up almost eight percent from last year. DOT credits education and the Click It or Ticket campaign.
Marianne Trussell, Chief Safety Officer for FDOT, said, "We go into all the schools at the youngest ages to say you need to be in a safety belt, and you need to do it nicely, but you need to remind mom and dad that they need to wear it too because you all need to get home safely."
The Florida Department of Transportation says local and state law enforcement issued more than 46,000 safety belt and child restraint citations during the Click It or Ticket campaign.
