A longtime chief of police is stepping down after more than three and a half decades of service. Wayne Putnal is retiring as the Perry police chief.
Rumors that he was soon to be fired surround his resignation, but Chief Putnal says that is not true. He says it is simply just time for him to bow out gracefully.
Chief Herman "Wayne" Putnal said, “After 37 years with the Perry Police Department, 21 years as chief of police, it's time that I move out and let someone come in with fresh ideas."
Chief Putnal says he's enjoyed serving the people of Perry. His last day is July 19.
