FSU is receiving a huge grant to develop a new hurricane model.
FSU meteorologist James O' Brien says the university is receiving $6.2 million from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
The five year grant will help in developing a more accurate model, one that will better predict the number of hurricanes in an upcoming season.
"What we'll do is go back about 30 years and will test our models on the previous systems and see how good they are. It will be about two to three years before we really would expect to have something we could show to the public," says O' Brien, who hopes the new model will help emergency managers and citizens make better decisions regarding hurricane preparedness.
