Governor Was Advised Not to Dismiss Embattled Prisons Chief

The governor had told Crosby to get his act together late last year after several scandals broke involving drugs, fights and other problems in the prison system.

Then he learned Crosby himself was implicated, but wasn’t able to cut him loose right away.

Gov. Jeb Bush, (R) Florida, said, "I asked for the ability to ask for Crosby's resignation on the spot and was told no, that they wanted to make sure that they had the case iron-clad. So we were given permission to do it the night before I fired him."

Crosby is expected to turn himself in to authorities this week.
