The commissioner turned in his Letter of Withdrawal to the county Supervisor of Election’s Office Monday.
He's served on the board since 1998, but he says he decided to step back from the race in order to spend more time with his family, especially his father who is suffering from a terminal illness.
At Tuesday night's commission meeting, Commissioner Winchester said, "You can't ever get that time back, so there's always time for politics and now is not the time for me, and I do look forward to finishing my commitment with Leon County through November, take care of government business."
Three candidates are vying for the District Three seat. They are John Paul Bailey, John Dailey and Chip Sellers.
