The United Faculty Florida is preparing to file suit against Florida State University, according to UFF Executive Director Steven Weinberger.

Wednesday, members of FSU's bargaining team met to discuss faculty pay raises and voted not to approve the 1.5 percent merit increase requested by the faculty union.

Union members were not present at the meeting because Weinberger says the union wasn't properly notified.

"We intend to file suit probably sometime next week in order to obtain a judicial ruling as to which is the appropriate legislative body to resolve contractual impasses where they occur," said Weinberger.

"We have a fabulous group of colleagues and we're going to lobby hard this session and continue working with faculty leadership to provide the kinds of resources they have earned and deserve," said FSU provost Larry Abele.

A meeting of FSU's full board is scheduled for July 26.
