Florida State's President says a new hiring freeze has been put into effect as of Thursday morning.

The University has looked at the budget numbers and it's become a cause for concern.

Wetherell says 80% of the university's budget is in personnel and he says they will continue to make some hirings if necessary but says they will be severely limited.

"We've looked at the numbers, we've looked at the projections from the legislature and we clearly, we are concerned," says Florida State University President T.K. Wetherell.

Wetherell says the university is working with $25 million dollars less this year compared to last and estimates that shortfall could be $50 to $70 million dollars in the 2009 school year.
