Shuttle Glides Home Safely

A picture-perfect landing ends what NASA calls one of its smoothest shuttle missions to date.

Space agency communicators congratulated the Discovery crew on a great mission that brought the international space station back to full-crew capacity.

It was so cloudy over the Kennedy Space Center that Commander Steven Lindsey couldn't spot the runway until about a minute before landing, but the safe glide home lets NASA declare total victory for the first time since before the 2003 Columbia disaster.

Small bits of foam falling from the shuttle's external fuel tank at launch proved to be only a minor cause for concern.
