It started out as a family vacation and reunion in Gaza, but then the fighting broke out forcing Wafa Elsaka and her son Omar to cut their trip short. Omar was not allowed to enter Gaza because he's American. Instead, his family crossed into Egypt to spend time with him.

Omar says he appreciates his American upbringing and the ability to connect with people of different cultures.

Omar Elsaka said, "I have plenty of Jewish friends and we all get along together and we can discuss this Israeli/Palestinian conflict all the time, but before there was a state called Israel there was a state called Palestine, and Palestinians, Christians, and Israelis lived there peacefully and happy."

More than 260 people have been killed and 500,000 displaced in seven days of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah Militants in Lebanon.
