Tallahassee Water Alert

Approximately 15,000 City of Tallahassee water customers in the northwest area of the city, north of West Tharpe Street and west of North Monroe Street, may experience intermittent discolored water Tuesday evening and possibly Wednesday.

The water well normally supplying the area was removed from service for testing and maintenance, and due to the seasonal demand this time of year, an additional well was placed into service. As a result of the change in water flow, residents in this area may experience discolored (reddish) water temporarily.

While this is due to naturally occurring iron deposits in the distribution lines and does not pose a health or safety hazard, it does cause visual discoloration of the water. Citizens experiencing discolored water should run their taps for several minutes to clear their service lines and avoid washing clothes until the water is clear.

The Water Utility is working diligently to complete the testing which should be completed in approximately 24 to 48 hours. For more information, please call the City of Tallahassee’s Water Quality Division at 891-1200.
