The five New Hanover deputies have been disciplined after arresting a suspect at the suspect’s father’s funeral Saturday (11/15).

Gladwyn Russ III was wanted on a domestic warrant for a threatening to kill his wife. The plan was for deputies to arrest Russ after the funeral, but a miscommunication at the sheriff's department resulted in two plain clothes detectives taking him in to custody while he was acting as a pallbearer, and sliding his father's casket in to the hearse.

Startled, according to Russ he fought back. That is when the suspect was tased, cuffed and taken to jail.

The New Hanover County Sheriff's Office says it apologizes for the bad timing but the suspect was wanted for threatening to kill his wife and although he promised to turn himself in to authorities he simply would not.

Since August, sheriff's deputies have made 19 visits to Russ's house. The majority of visits were failed attempts to arrest him. In fact, the last time they tired to arrest him, Russ barricaded himself inside a home, and refused to go peacefully with law enforcement.

The danged police could have just followed him until it was all OVER!!! I think this was disrespectful to the dead man and all the other innocent people who witnessed this! Was the dudes father named Rodney Dangerfield by any chance? Because he didn't get any respect!

first for Theresa think before judging the taser if it were you or your loved one comitting a crime would you rather be tazed with a taser or shot with a real gun because in law enforcement they are faced with life and death decisions everyday. With a taser it is over after 3 seconds but with a gun it could mean your life. Second for Emmett you say law enforcement did this for pure revenge and that you have worked in a custody facility for minors then you should understand what officers go through and not pass judgement. This article does state that the subject fought back it does not give details so you do not know what happened unless you have seen a video that we didn't. Third Yvette the story does not say he barricated hisself when they were attempting to arrest him on these charges. That could have happpen a year or two ago for all you know resulting in an arrest at that time. I'm not saying I think its right for them to arrest at the funeral just that unless
