One area health department is testing out a new emergency technique while also giving local folks flu shots.

The Lowndes County Health Department hosted a drive thru flu clinic at Lowndes High School Tuesday.

Public health volunteers are taking this opportunity to learn how to handle a mass emergency in which medication would need to be dispensed.

"We could sit around the table and talk about things and tell them what they need to do, but just the hands-on training and seeing how things are gonna work and being able to see what does work and what doesn't and being able to make those changes....the hands on training is invaluable in being able to implement it in an emergency," said Ashley Tye, Emergency Management Diirector for Lowndes County.

"We can actually visualize what we would be doing...now we know the difference um the different job tasks we'd have to do and we know how long it would take to set up and just what our role would be in the emergency said Pinckney McGhin, nurse manager.

Drive thru mass dispensing is a new method used by the Lowndes County Health Department.
