Valdosta Sunday Alcohol Sales Referendum Goes to Ballot

In a 5 to 2 vote the Valdosta City Council put the referendum on the November ballot.

The ordinance will allow the sale of liquor by the drink between the hours of 12:30 p.m. and midnight, but only at licensed establishments that derive at least 50 percent of their sales from the sale of food, or hotels that derive at least 50 percent of their income from the rental of rooms.

Convenience stores, grocery stores and liquor stores, will not be allowed to sell alcohol on Sundays under this ordinance.
