Innovation Park held it's 6th annual Winter Craft Show this Friday (12-5-08). Vendors from around the area gathered to put their products up for sale. Many of the proceeds will go to the Gibb Mabry Village, which houses elderly and disabled people, as well as children. The money from the event will help village residents with Christmas, as well as a positive start to the new year. Those at Innovation Park are glad to see the event being held again.
Linda Nicholsen, executive director of Innovation Park says, "It's very heartwarming because our tenants are so supportive. They come back, they look for it, they remember some of the vendors, and they come down with their canned goods and their donations for the Village, and they look forward to it, so it feels good to everybody."
Jewelry, Christmas decorations, food, toys, and much more were on sale. Diane Murphy is the manager of Gibb Mabry Village, and she is here every year to help out with the event.
Murphy says, "It helps us out because it makes us an opportunity to be a community together, doing stuff together. Not just sitting, going to the doctor, going in our wheelchairs. It gives us an opportunity to know that there are people out there who love us and care for us."
Canned goods and toys were being accepted to help residents of the village during this holiday season.
Murphy says that she is always grateful for the event each year and hopes that more people will continue to support and donate. In the past, $500-$600 was raised for the village.
The Winter Craft Show is a one-day event on the first Friday of every December.
