State workers in Leon County are gearing up for another year of fundraising to help the United Way.
They contributed more than $2.4 million during last year's campaign and are aiming to raise $2.5 million this year. It's money that helped the Weeks family, especially five-year-old Trent, to get through years of treatment for his leukemia.
His mom Kayla is encouraging others to give so more families like hers can be helped.
She said, "I appreciate all the givers out there because without them it wouldn't have been possible and it would've been a struggle for my family to make it through the therapy, especially the first year, because it's the most intense."
Weeks says Trent is doing much better and even started Kindergarten this year.
