The meeting dealt with House Bill 489, legislation that helps local governments work effectively together when providing services such as fire rescue, provision of the courts, and downtown development.
Both the Lowndes County Commission and Valdosta Mayor John Fretti call the progress a success.
Citizens such as John Guzlowski agree.
"I think it's a great idea. I've seen other communities where this type of consolidation has really worked to energize the community. I'm sure it's going to bring more business in, but it's going to provide better services and cheaper services too because it's going to eliminate repetition of services,” he said.
Some issues such as Parks and Recreation services were set aside for a later date so they can receive more attention.
